I undertook a materials study in order to bend light and weight into a pleasing form in both daylight and darkness. While in daylight, the smooth aluminum contrasts the dark stained wood while all being visually balanced. At night, the light reflects off of each aluminum cylinder, casting star like streaks on the walls.
I first sketched some basic form ideas, which were translated into mini mockups, before moving into multiple material and shape studies to understand what would form light better. I orbital sanded one side of an aluminum sheet and fine sanded the other, before bending the whole thing and attaching it onto the wood piece.
